Miloš Doležal: Fury and Flower and Stingray

Born in 1970 in Ledeč nad Sázavou, he studied publishing at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University. He worked as an editor for the magazine Perspektivy and for Český rozhlas. He writes poetry, small prose, is engaged in journalism, essays, and editorial work. His main themes revolve around the memory of his native Vysočina region, in particular around the grievances, injustice and terror of the World War II, and the Stalinist period of the early 1950s. He has published over thirty books, most recently Čurda z Hlína (Čurda of Dirt, 2019), Do posledních sil (To the Last Strength, 2020), 1945: léto běsů (1945: Summer of Furies, 2022), Jana bude brzy sbírat lipový květ (Jana Will Soon Be Collecting Linden Flowers, 2022), Trnem rejnoka (Thorn of the Stingray, 2023). He has received numerous awards, including Book of the Year Prize by Lidové noviny (2012), the PEN Club Their Own Way Prize (2023) and Magnesia Litera: Book of the Year Prize (2023).
